Day by Day itinerary 

Day 1: Reykjavík – Blönduós

Pick up in the afternoon in Reykjavík. Transfer by car/bus to Blönduós. We stop on the way. Arriving at Fornilækur guesthouse,  an evening snack awaits you.

Day 2: Riding instructions and Skagafjörður

After breakfast we will meet our horses in our new, modern stable in Blönduós. You will start to connect with your horse in the riding hall with a professional riding instructor. 

After lunch we will go to visit Skagafjörður and several centuries of Icelandic history. On this trip we will visit the old turf farm Glaumbær (18th century) . Have you heard about Sturlungaöld or Snorri Sturluson? Well, the museum 1238 in Sauðárkróki is an interactive and immersive historical experience that brings you into the middle of Viking battles. The exhibition stages the most famous Viking battles and events of the age of Sturlungs (1220-1262). Last stop in Skagafjörður is the legendary bathing spot Grettislaug, where the outlaw Grettir the Strong heated up after swimming ashore from the island Drangey .

Back at the guesthouse dinner is waiting for us. 

Day 3: Vatnsnes peninsula, riding

This morning we will explore the beauty of the Vatnsnes peninsula. After breakfast we will drive 25 km to see Borgarvirki. Made out of basalt strata, it has been used as a fortress for centuries. Enjoy the great view! Some minutes away we will find Hvítserkur, a rock stack that rises about 15m out of the ocean. We will have a nice walk and visit the seal colony close to Hvítserkur. On our way back, we will stop at Þrístapar, a historic site, where the last execution of a convicted felon took place in 1830. 

Relaxing time after lunch. 

For your riding experience of the day you will have 2 options: riding instruction or a riding trip from Blönduós to the farm Holti (2 hours riding).

Dinner at Fornilækur.

Day 4: Riding, Þingeyrar

This morning we will saddle up at the farm Holti and ride towards the historic Þingeyrar Church. We ride over black sand and we cross the lake Húnavatn on a safe trail (2,5 hours). A once in a lifetime experience. If you are insecure you have the option to ride just a part of this riding tour. A car will pick you up to meet the rest of the group in Þingeyrar.

Before visiting the church and the archaeological excavations , we will have a great picnic. 

We will be back at the guest house in the early afternoon. Use your time in Blönduós to visit the textile museum, go to our great swimming pool with relaxing hot tubs and sauna, have a nice walk e.g. to the island Hrútey. Day 5: Blönduós – Reykjavík

It is time to say goodbye to our guides and drive back to Reykjavík. Approx. arrival at 12:30 in Reykjavík BSÍ.
