Sonja Suska
Dedicated educator and tourism expert, is the head of Fornilækur. She has both a master´s degree in tourism and in language teaching and more than a decade experience in both. In her free-time, she is a passionate rider and breeder of the Icelandic horse.
With Fornilækur, she can combine these three favorite things to do.
Lilja Maria Suska, riding instructor
Lilja Maria grew up in Iceland´s countryside where her parents run the farm Hvammur 2 that specializes in equestrian tourism. To increase her knowledge of horses, she attended Hólar University, Iceland's premier equine school, where she formally studies riding and riding instruction. She will graduate in June 2024 with a B.Sc.
In Addition to her experience in leading many horse trails in the last years, she has taught for the riding club Neisti and managed its youth work in winter 2023 and gave clinics on Icelandic Horse farms in Germany.
Inga Rós Suska, guide
Inga Rós grew up in Iceland´s countryside where her parents ran the farm Hvammur 2 that specializes in equestrian tourism. Therefore, she has a lot of experience in guiding you safely over the riding trails. Inga Rós is studying performing arts at the college in Akureyri. She is the singer of the band Skandall and might teach you some songs.
Jóhanna Pálmadóttir, embroidery
Jóhanna Erla Pálmadóttir was born and raised on the sheep farm Akur in NW Iceland. She is a textile teacher from Copenhagen, specializing in embroidery, knitting and wool processing. She started teaching in 1991. Her main project as an embroidery teacher is the tapestry Vatnsdæla á Refil. A traditional method of sewing/embroidery is used and taught to those interested in participating.
Jóhanna offers lessons in tapestry stitch, outline stitch and French knots.
Martina Ohletz, confectionary
Martina's love for pastries and especially chocolate started as a hobby and quickly turned into a passion. She studied in Germany and runs the company Mio Konfekt since 2020 . She makes custom cakes for all occasions as well as offering chocolate bars and confections.
Martina has always been very creative and wants to share her joy and passion for chocolate and pastry with others.
Inese Elferte, arts
Inese Elferte holds a master's degree in art history and art teaching from the University of Latvia. Inese has been working as an art teacher for 27 years in Latvia and Iceland. Last 3 years she has been teaching adults to paint with acrylic techniques. Her passion is teaching art, painting, clay and other handcrafts. She has participated in exhibitions with her artwork and handcrafts as well as with the artworks of her students.
Katharina Schneider, historian
Katharina Schneider has lived in Blönduós since 2009 and manages, amongst other projects, the District Library. She holds a master's degree in history and English from the University of Freiburg, and a diploma in information science from the University of Iceland in Reykjavík. Her passion for history, particularly the history of Blönduós, led her to initiate historical walking tours of the old town in 2013. These tours delve into topics such as urban development, architecture, local myths, and daily life during the 19th and early 20th centuries.
Svava Blöndal, yoga
Svava is a trained teacher, beautician, massage therapist and yoga teacher with long experience. She teaches various types of yoga for children, seniors and everything in between. She also studied sound healing and gong playing which has become very popular. Svava has specialized in yoga Nidra which is a form of guided meditation also known as “yogic sleep” or “effortless relaxation”. She runs her own company Lavender & Lífið, Snyrting, Nudd & Yoga.
